Oil Change
OIL CHANGE & ENGINE OIL LIFE SYSTEM
Your vehicle's engine is the heart of your vehicle, which makes the oil is its lifeblood. When you don't check or change your oil often enough, it will shorten the life of your engine. Over time, as your engine heats, cools and runs, it can make your oil thicker and dirtier. Not only can this decrease its ability to flow (also known as viscosity), it leaves harmful deposits in your engine and may even cause extensive damage. At Elm Chevrolet our certified service technicians know how your vehicle uses oil, and when your vehicle needs the oil changed. Keep on top of engine troubles by scheduling your next checkup with Elm Chevrolet when it’s time for your vehicle’s next oil change.
CHECKING YOUR OIL LEVEL
It’s a good idea to periodically check your oil level yourself to watch for any potential problems. To get the best reading, your car's oil must be warm, at normal operating temperature, and the vehicle must be on level ground. You should always check your Owner’s Manual for the correct way to check your oil level, or check online, there may be a video available. You’ll get a more accurate dipstick reading by following those instructions.
CHOOSING THE BEST OIL FOR YOUR VEHICLE
Choosing the right oil is a critical step in maintaining your engine. From conventional to full synthetic, our Elm Chevrolet Service Department offers the full range of oil types, including ACDelco Conventional Oil, ACDelco dexos1™ Full Synthetic, and Mobil1™ Full Synthetic. Our experts will know the right grade of oil to use for your and advise you when we change your oil.
WARNING SIGNS
Keeping an eye on your engine fluids can save you money in the long run. Low or dirty oil can damage the engine. Here are a few things to monitor when driving to ensure your engine lasts a long time.
Change Engine Oil Soon
When the CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON light displays, you should schedule service with Elm Chevrolet within the next 600 miles. Be sure to check our service specials to save even more money.
Engine Oil Life System
Even when you're driving under the best conditions, the Engine Oil Life System might not need service for more than one year. The engine oil and filter must be changed at least once a year and the Oil Life System must be reset. When you schedule your regular service with Elm Chevrolet, we'll check this for you.
Oil Pressure Low/Stop Engine
Low engine oil pressure can cause very costly damage to your engine. If this message displays, immediately bring your vehicle to a stop and do not restart your engine until the proper engine oil pressure is restored and the cause of the drop is corrected. You should check the oil level immediately. DO NOT operate the engine with the oil pressure warning light on or an ENGINE OIL LOW ADD OIL message displayed. If you don't feel comfortable doing this, call Elm Chevrolet, we can advise you from there.
Oil Leaks
One of the most immediate signs of a problem with your oil is noticeable leaks. If you find a leak, schedule service with Elm Chevrolet as soon as possible. Catching a problem before it becomes a much larger problem can help save you time and money.
